Collaboration
Collaboration
Our performing arts classes, music and dance ensembles, and theatrical productions are inherently experiential and immensely collaborative. Additional opportunities and experiences that are unique and highly collaborative:
Coffeehouse – Showcase of Original Works
Performing artists are encouraged to create original and innovative works for Waynflete’s annual Coffeehouse. This event celebrates creativity, risk-taking, and self-expression by featuring student playwrights, composers, songwriters, choreographers, poets, comedians, and more in a casual performance setting. Members of the Performing Arts Team work closely with students to provide coaching as they work toward this event.
Invitational Chamber Music Festival
Every March, Waynflete hosts an invitational festival for students from Maine schools, community ensembles, and private studios. Unlike district and statewide orchestral events, Waynflete’s festival is dedicated to nurturing the unique art of chamber music in which each player of a small ensemble takes ownership of the rehearsal process and, ultimately, the performance.
Twenty-Four Hour Theater Festival
An annual Upper School event held each December that invites participants from guest schools. Responding to a prompt, students write a short play and then stage and perform it in one day!
Waynflete Intergenerational Chorus
This community-building and music-making ensemble puts singers (grades 4-12) and members of the faculty and staff side-by-side to create music together and learn from each other. Weekly rehearsals are held before and after the regular school day. Waynflete Intergenerational Chorus (a.k.a. “WIC”) performs at various school events, including Convocation and Music Concerts.
